Vassar Clements Discography
Vassar Clements was a member of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boy from 1949 to 1956 though he recorded with the group only in 1950 and 1951 during this period. He then joined up with Jim & Jesse McReynolds and was a member of their Virginia Boys between 1957 and 1961. After a break from music in the mid 1960's Clements moved to Nashville and started recording regularly as a studio session music1an. At the end of the 1960's he toured with Faron Young. In 1971 he joined John Hartford's Dobrolic Plectral Society. In 1972 he joined the Earl Scruggs Revue, an association that led to him to make an important contribution to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Will The Circle Be Unbroken album. Clements signed his first major solo recording deal in 1973 and released Crossing The Catskills later that year.
Also in 1973 he was a member of Old & In The Way with Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Peter Rowan and John Kahn.
Throughout the 70's he also continued working as a studio session musician. Since that time Clements has recorded solo albums and on other recordings.
