The Rhythm Devils

The Rhythm Devils is a name that has been given to the two Grateful Dead drummers, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, and the music they play together in a number of situations.

With the Grateful Dead

The drum and percussion segments of Grateful Dead shows are usually referred to as drums or rhythm devils on set lists. See the song pages for drums or rhythm devils for information about Grateful Dead recordings that include this music.

The Apocalypse Now Soundtrack

A group that featured Kreutzmann and Hart recorded music for the Apocalypse Now soundtrack. As well as being used in the movie this music was released on LP, The Rhythm Devils Play River Music, The Rhythm Devils, 1980. This music has been released on an expanded CD The Apocalypse Now Sessions, The Rhythm Devils, 1991 and tracks are included on some various artist compilation.

2006 Tour

The first Rhythm Devils live performances outside the Grateful Dead. The group undertook a short tout in the fall of 2006. The group line-up was;

  • Mickey Hart - drums, percussion
  • Bill Kreutzmann - drums, percussion
  • Mike Gordon - bass
  • Steve Kimock - guitar
  • Sikiru Adepoju - percussion
  • Jen Durkin - vocals
Robert Hunter has written lyrics for new songs for the group.
