The Promised Land was first performed by the Grateful Dead in April 1971. The song was played regularly through the 1970's then less often, but still usually nearly 10 times a year, through to 1995. In total it was performed over 400 times. The last Grateful Dead performance of the song was to close set one of the last Grateful Dead show in July 1995.
