Notes
A John Lennon song. Recorded by the Beatles in July 1969 and released as a single in October 1969. The working title was Mark 1. The Anthology 3 release includes an early take of the song from the July recording sessions.
The initial inspiration for Lennon to write a song called Come Together was a request from Timothy Leary for a campaign song. Lennon attempted to meet this request without success. The title then led to a different sort of song, one that is suggested includes many elements of self portrait.
Some of the lyrics in the song, "Here come old flat-top, He come grooving up slowly" were borrowed from the Chuck Berry song, You Can't Catch Me. This led to a court case which ultimately resulted in Lennon recording three songs published by the company that published the Chuck Berry song, on his Rock 'n' Roll album.
