The Grateful Dead on Scorpio Records
This is a discography of Grateful Dead recordings released on the Scorpio Records label. The Grateful Dead recorded for Scorpio prior to signing for a major label, Warner Brothers, in 1966. Only one single was released. Scorpio Records was a small, very short lived Bay Area record company. The name was abandoned when it was discovered that there was already a Scorpio Records based in San Francisco. The presence of two companies with this name has led to confusion. The Grateful Dead recorded with the smaller of the two. They did not record with the Scorpio Records which was a subsidiary started by Fantasy Records to break into the market created by the 'British Invasion' following the success of the Beatles. Additions, corrections and comments are welcome
