Performed only once by the Grateful Dead, during a soundcheck on 26th March 1995. Regularly performed by the Garcia/Saunders band and Legion Of Mary in the mid-1970's.

The song occurs as Neighbor, Neighbor and as Neighbour, Neighbour. The best known version of the songs appears to be the version by Jimmy Hughes which was a hit single in 1967. Earlier recordings exist especially in the UK. These, and many subsequent recordings, are credited to Alton Joseph Valier. Some subsequent recordings are credited to Huey Meaux.

Some sources accidentally credit Billy Gibbons as the composer of this song. This is incorrect. Gibbons wrote a song with the same title, that was recorded by ZZ Top, but that is a different song to the one performed by Jimmy Hughes, Garcia/Saunders, the Grateful Dead et al.
