Devil With The Blue Dress On was performed half a dozen times by the Grateful Dead in the fall of 1987. On each occasion it was paired with Good Golly Miss Molly.

The original Shorty Long single was the first release on the Soul label, one of the four major subsidiary labels of Motown. This version was not a chart success. An uptempo version of the song by Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels was release in 1966. This version, which was paired with Good Golly Miss Molly, reached number 4 in the singles charts.

The song sometimes occurs on recordings as Devil With A Blue Dress On.
