Composer: Bob McDill / Allen Reynolds

Jerry Garcia first started regularly performing Catfish John in 1973 with both the Garcia / Saunders band and Old & In The Way. From then onward it was a regular part of the Jerry Garcia Band repertoire.

The Grateful Dead version of the song first released on Beyond Description and then on the expanded CD release Terrapin Station is a studio outtake from the Fall of 1976. The song was not performed live by the Grateful Dead.
