The Legends / The Zodiacs
The Legends
On returning to Palo Alto from a school in Arizona at some time in 1963 or 1964 Bill Kreutzmann played drums for a local group called The Legends. Denis McNally in the essay that accompanies The Golden Road box set describes The Legends as "an R&B bar band that dressed slick in red coats and black ties and played James Brown, Ray Charles and The Isley Brothers at YMCA dances."
There are no recordings of The Legends.
The Zodiacs
At some point, probably during 1964, Bill Kreutzmann played for a local group called The Zodiacs. The group also included guitarist Troy Weidenheimer. According to Denis McNally Jerry Garcia filled in on bass for the group on a few occasions. Pigpen may also have played some shows with the group.
There are no recordings of The Zodiacs.
