The Marin County Collective

The Marin County Collective is the name given to a loose collective of mainly Marin County based musicians who met up to play and record at Mickey Hart's barn in Novato in 1972 and 1973. Regular member of the collective were John Cipollina, David Freiberg, Jerry Garcia, Mickey Hart, Robert Hunter, Phil Lesh, Kathi McDonald, Jim McPherson, Barry Melton and Steven Shuster.

Music featuring musicians from the collective circulates on tape and online usually with the titles of proposed album projects: Fire On The Mountain and Area Code 415. There were however no officially released albums.
