Wooly Bully was probably played by the pre-Grateful Dead group The Warlocks in 1965 - there is anecdotal evidence but no recordings.

Wooly Bully was written by Domingo Samudio (aka Sam The Sham) in 1964. It was initially released in 1964 on a small Memphis label, XL, and then in 1965 on MGM. The song reached #2 in the charts and stayed in the "Hot 100" for 18 weeks through the Summer of 1965.

Wooly Bully has subsequently been included on numerous compilations and recorded by other groups - only a very small selections of these recordings is listed below.
