Silver Rainbow was played by Jerry Garcia during a banjo lesson / demonstration for Pete Grant at Dana Morgan Music in Palo Alto in April 1964. Silver Rainbow is a banjo instrumental associated with, and presumably written by, Sonny Osborne. The best known recording of the piece was released on the 5 String Hi-Fi album and on an EP. This was recorded by the Sonny Osborne group in early 1956. This group was Sonny Osborne, Red Allen, Bobby Osborne, Art Stamper and Les Bodine.
