Tupelo Blues (aka The Mighty Flood)
Composer: John Lee Hooker

This song was played by Pigpen at a show on April 18, 1970 at the Family Dog show that was billed as by Mickey Hart and His Heartbeats and Bobby Ace and His Cards from the Bottom of the Deck. For many years the song was referred to as The Flood. The show was released in 2013 on the Family Dog at the Great Highway, San Francisco, CA 4/18/70 album. On this release the song was credited as Traditional arr McKernan and given the title The Mighty Flood. However the song is mainly a version of the John Lee Hooker song Tupelo Blues with some lyrics from another John Lee Hooker song added to the end.

John Lee Hooker first recorded the song in the late 1950s and it was first released on the album The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker. Versions of the song with the title Tupelo were also released on John Lee Hooker albums.
