Notes
Performed by the Beach Boys during the Dead/Beach Boys set on 27th April 1971. Members of the Dead did not contribute to this song.
Brian Wilson has said, I Get Around is about my competitive nature, a lot of people were making great records, like the Beatles, Phil Spector and Bob Crewe. I needed to fight back a little bit. It was an answer to 'My Boyfriend's Back' in the way it was produced. It's a kind of social lyric. It's about going places, making good money, going around from town to town. It represents Americana. I used a good rhythm with echo and hand claps. It was done in out commercial style with a bass singer, falsetto and midrange background parts. I used Spector techniques for the instrumental tracks and a standard 4/4 rhythm.
