Trouser Press

Publication date: 1974 to 1984

Trouser Press was a New York based music magazine which focused on British music.

The first dozen or so issues were mimeographed fanzines which had the longer title Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press and the tag line Americas Only British Rock Magazine. From issue 14 onward the title was just Trouser Press. The tag line was shortened at some point to The British Rock magazine and was dropped completely after issue 22 at which point US music was also sometimes covered. The magazine also took on a more professional presentation during this period.

In total there were just under a hundred editions of Trouser Press. Early editions covered a wide range of rock music. During the later 1970's the magazine covered the growing punk scene and in the 1980's coverage focused on the new wave music of the times. The last edition was in April 1984.

Trouser Press continued to produce record guides through the 1980's and 1990's. Publications included The Trouser Press Guide to New Wave Records and The Trouser Press Guide To 90's Rock.

The guides and many more reviews and other information are now available on the Trouser Press web site.
