This book is based around the banjo and guitar lessons given to the author by Jerry Garcia at Dana Morgan's Music Store in Palo Alto in 1964 and 1965. Includes facsimiles of 22 tablature arrangements of folk songs handwritten by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead which were written as practice charts. Eleven essays discuss the effect of these lessons on the authors thirty years professional music performance, musicology, music education and music therapy experience. Also includes a CD-ROM with midi renditions of the songs, information om playing techniques and tunings, chord theory diagrams drawn by Jerry Garcia, lyrics, melodies and chords for all songs, a bibliography and references.
