This book was part of a two volume anthology. Volume one was entitled; The Founding of the Modern Tradition: From Coleridge to Crowley. The anthology included an introduction by Brian Aldiss.
Volume 2 is a collection of essays and fiction excerpts based around the subject of psychedelics and includes one chapter that is part of the lengthy Rolling Stone interview that Jerry Garcia gave to Charles Reich and Jann Wenner in 1972. That interview was originally published in book form as A Signpost To New Space in 1972.
Other contributors include Neal Cassady, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, William Burroughs, Timothy Leary, Alan Watts, Paul Bowles, Terry Southern, Alexander Trocchi, Brion Gysin, John Lennon, Hunter Thompson, Richard Brautigan, and Aldous Huxley.
Volume 2 of the anthology was subsequently published in a new format as The Walls Of Illusion.
