A detailed 4 volume discography of recordings made for Atlantic Records between 1947 and 1974. Each volume covers a specific chronological period. Atlantic was formed in 1947 by Ahmet Ertegün and Herb Abramson. During the early years Atlantic was primarily a rhythm & blues and jazz label. The company expanded into other areas of music in later years. After 20 years as an independent company Atlantic was bought by Warner Brothers in 1967. Since then the Atlantic name has continued despite various changes in ownership.
