Grateful Dead record labels
The Dead first recorded for Autumn Records in 1964 when still called The Warlocks, though they used the name The Emergency Crew for the session. These recordings were not issued at the time. Their first release was a single on the small local Scorpio label in 1966. The group signed with Warner Brothers in 1966. They stayed with Warner Brothers until late 1972 when they set up their own labels; Grateful Dead Records and Round Records. At the end of 1975 the group abandoned some of their independence and signed a distribution deal with United Artists. The Dead signed with Arista at the end of 1976. The Grateful Dead Records imprint was resurrected for some releases through the 1990s and 2000s.Discographies of some of these labels are provided below. The Record Label Glossary contains links to pages about other labels that recorded band members and related groups.
